FAQ
Is Farfell free?
Yes. It is completely free to play in your browser.
What can I do in this version?
Explore a random map, build your town, hire and upgrade troops, level up your captain, find artifacts, cast spells, fight neutral armies and rival captains, take the rival camps, and play five scenarios with their own goals. Random maps pit you against the Ironfang Clan, the Gilded League or up to three rival camps at once.
How do I get more troops?
Build barracks and halls in your town and hire the recruits that come each week. Hire while your captain is in town and they join at once, otherwise they wait in the garrison. Crab pens and wolf dens hire out their creatures for gold, and weak armies sometimes ask to join you.
What happens if I lose a battle?
Your captain falls back to the outpost with what is left of the army. But if a rival house holds your outpost when your captain falls, the ride is over.
Why can't I ride past that army?
Neutral armies watch the tiles around them. Riding into those tiles starts a fight.
Is my progress saved?
Yes, automatically in your browser, and in the cloud if you sign in on SagaArcade.
How do I learn spells?
Build a Lantern Shrine in your town and ride in. The first circle needs nothing, the second needs Wisdom and the third expert Wisdom. A visit to the shrine also refills your captain's mana.
What do the red riders do?
They are captains of the Ironfang Clan. They fight neutral armies, take mines and, from the third week on Normal, raid your outpost when it looks weak. Beat one and it returns to the camp four days later.
What do the difficulty levels change?
How strong the Clan's captains start, how fast the camp grows, how much they earn from mines, how soon they raid and how bold they are.
What are the scenarios?
Four maps with a letter from Oda Brack and a goal of their own: The First Ridge, Gold in the Fells, Ironfang Rising and Wings over Farfell. Win one to open the next. You find them in the menu.
What does the sky do?
Every week one of the six skies of Wyrdmere, or a clear week, changes the rules: more gold, a shorter ride, flooded fens, fewer recruits, more of the dead, or a dragon burning mines.
Can I turn off the music?
Yes. Open Menu and switch Music or Sound off.
How is Renown counted?
Only won random maps count. The faster you take the Ironfang camp the more Renown you earn, Hard and medium maps count more, and a fully charted map adds a little. Easy, Normal and Hard have their own boards.
What do the gold riders do?
They are captains of the Gilded League. The League has more coin than soldiers: it earns more from every gold mine, buys its armies at its counting-house and pays weak neutral armies to step aside instead of fighting them. On a map with several rival camps, the houses also fight each other when their captains meet.
What is today's map?
Every day there is one small map that is the same for every player. You have fourteen days in the game to chart the land, claim mines, beat armies and rival captains, or take the rival camp for a big bonus. Your best score of the day goes on the daily board on SagaArcade. A new map comes at midnight (UTC).
Can I have more than one captain?
Yes. The tavern in your town (Town, Hire) hires up to three captains for 2,500 gold each. Switch between them with the buttons under the portrait or with H. To pass troops between captains, leave them in the garrison and let the other captain take the garrison along.
